Why won’t the barcodes scan on my thermal paper?

There can be several reasons why a barcode could scan poorly: 1. The customer could have a new conventional 1D barcode scanner that they have not set up to read their barcode. They usually only come preprogrammed with the most basic barcode types and the rest have to be put in the scanner via a barcode read by the scanner that is provided in the instruction manual. Also the barcode guns may malfunction and reset themselves back to factory setting which would make it lose all the codes the customer or whoever setup the system had put in. If this happens they will have to reenter their barcode type for the gun. 2. The barcode is printed poorly. If there are too many defects in the barcode it may not read. Also if there is a scratch on the thermal printer in may shave the barcode in a plate that may keep it from reading or cause in to produce the wrong number. Make sure to clean the thermal head regularly to help create the cleanest possible image. 3. Color of the paper. If the paper/ink color is too dark it may interfere with the barcode reading or keep it from reading all together. Also if the paper may be on the edge of too dark and is in a dark setting this may also interfere with the white substrate showing through from behind. The scanner uses red light to reflect the image and senses the white and black parts of the barcode. If the paper is too dark it will not be able to differentiate. Sometimes moving the scanner back so it is not overshadowing the barcode can help with scanning depending on the type of scanner. 4. The density (how close the bars are together) of the barcode may be different depending on how tight of a space the user needs it in. The distance of the scanner will have to be adjusted to read the barcode. Closer with smaller and further for larger.

The manufacture has several winders they use to convert the paper from a jumbo roll into the final product. Some of the machines use the tape seal, and some use a glue system. They are all from the same place.

Why do my receipts fade and how can I prevent this?

You might have noticed that many retailers are getting rid of ink printers and replacing them with faster, less expensive thermal ones. To print a thermal receipt, a heated stylus passes over thermal paper, which is coated in a chemical that darkens when heated. Unfortunately, the chemical layer remains active after the receipt is produced, so it's sensitive to light, heat, friction, abrasives and plastics, and can fade or darken quickly. For the best chance of keeping thermal receipts legible for a few years, you need to store them correctly: -Don't store receipts in plastic sleeves. -Do store receipts away from heat and light. -But sometimes there's not much that can be done to prevent the decay. -Ultimately, the best way of keeping thermal receipts is to make a copy of them.

At this time, per our manufacturer, our paper is not completely free of phenol. We can guarantee that it is BPA free, but not BPS free.
